Grants to SUI Total 82550 NSF Gift Leads IGY Work

The National Science Foundation provides 82550 for 1958 Iowa State University IGY projects. Funds under James Van Allen support Arctic rocket flights and cosmic ray instruments. Kinsey Anderson and Van Allen lead high altitude balloon and satellite work as part of a 18 month IGY study with 67 nations involved.

Two Iowans Die In Separate Vehicle Crashes

Two Iowans were killed Tuesday in separate accidents. Olin Halsne, 36, of rural Clear Lake died after his car collided with a freight train near Hanlontown and he was pronounced dead at Mason City hospital. Carl Lynn Carlson, 6, of rural Meriden died when crushed against a corn crib by a truck driven by his father Delbert Carlson who said he did not know the boy was near the crib as he backed the vehicle.

Anamosa Men Charged in Missouri Robbery Case

LaVern Otto Kasemeier of Anamosa and Harold John Elder of Chariton were bound over to the Randolph county circuit court after waiving preliminary hearings for first degree robbery in the Moberly food market heist. An $80,000 bond was approved by Begga voters 879 to 335 for a combined police and fire station. In Woodbury County, coroner Thomas L. Corden says lie detector tests were given to 8 or 10 people this week in a continuing investigation into the June 10 1955 staying of Donna Sue Davis in Sioux City. Ed Coffey 70 died of burns and suffocation after a room fire in a Sioux City hotel likely caused by smoking in bed. State tax officials say criminal charges may be filed against some prominent Towans who allegedly evaded income taxes for several years.

Registration Open For Christian Growth Course
