Coe Board Studies New Course Rules

Coe College trustees discussed a plan to abolish nearly all graduation course requirements. The individualized curriculum would tailor study to each student based on prior prep, interests, plans, and un explored areas. The plan originated with a student faculty summer study committee and has been reviewed by students faculty and administration.

Three Dead in Rich mond Train Derailment Near Alexandria

A Richmond to New York passenger train derailed at about 80 mph near Alexandria, killing three women and injuring scores. Blaze Destroys Tipton Furniture Store in Fire

A Tipton furniture store suffered about 150000 dollars in damage Tuesday morning when a blaze swept the Slantos Furniture and Floor Covering building. Four employees were inside but escaped unharmed after an explosion believed to trigger the fire. Gerald Nebergall described crawling through thick smoke to reach the exit. The blaze forced evacuation and disrupted local business.

TEL AVIV UPI reports the explosion of a truckload of explosives Saturday in the Israeli port of Elath has raised the death toll to 21 with rescue teams still at work.

Fire Hazard Color TV Models Listed

The National Commission on Product Safety named 122 color TV models with above average fire risk. Lear Siegler Olympic sets led fires at 30 per 100,000, with nine models, across Packard Bell Magnavox Sylvanis Philco Ford and RCA also high. GE Admiral Motorola Emerson and Warwick Sears showed lower rates. The agency sent recall and repair notices to manufacturers.

Baking Cookies Oven Explosion Injury at Dubuque Street

Tuesday at 12 30 pm fire crews responded to 720 North Dubuque Street after an oven gas explosion injured Dick Parke while attempting to bake cookies. No structural fire found. minor burns on his right hand and arm. Parke told to seek medical care.
