Cedar Rapids city homeowners are urged to apply for homestead tax credits and exemptions now to avoid spring rush. Cedar Rapids dog pound under Warden Charles Lokart reports 1969 activity totaling 5266 calls including 879 night calls and 287 Sunday calls. Impounded dogs 2137 cats 1087, plus 112 other animals. 752 dead or injured picked up. Bite investigations 424 with 367 dog bites and 68 cat bites. Cougar bite noted from Kennedy High mascot last April. Office operates two trucks.
DES MOINES Iowa United Press International Sen Elmer Lange warned a bill to remove the state liquor seal certifying quality age and contents on bottles would simplify compliance amid many brands and types The measure aims to drop the requirement now used on about a third of liquor sold in Iowa Gov Ray is backing a committee request to stop recording serial numbers on seals upheld by the liquor commission
DES MOINES AP A lawsuit to block the merger of Iowa Power and Light Co and Iowa Illinois Gas and Electric Co was dismissed in Polk County District Court and later reinstated by Judge Wade Clarke. Marriott, the plaintiff, claimed $4.5 million damages and alleged fraud and conspiracy. his health concerns prompted the initial dismissal, with testimony having begun before the motion filed.
Cedar Rapids police expanded a citywide narcotics crackdown with two more arrests. Laura Kueny, 19, surrendered at police HQ after warrants were issued. John Northrup, 19, was arrested at work. Thirteen people have been arrested in four days.
Cornell University fights a tax dispute over whether income from farmland leases counts as unrelated business income or rents. The suit cites Iowa court precedents and an Eighth Circuit ruling, noting years of farm revenue taxed and a 1968 refund claim. Grinnell College officials call the case a test affecting private colleges with farm lands.
Washington AP Romney, head of Housing, hopes Michigan Republicans pick another candidate for the Senate race against Democrat Philip Hart. He did not rule himself out, citing national housing programs requiring his focus. His wife Lenore is not seeking the nomination unless no consensus candidate emerges.

Courthouse Max Albaugh, 61, of 360 South Eleventh Street, Marion, was charged with damage to a vehicle after allegedly failing to stop to exchange information following a two car sideswipe on East Post Road north of Cottage Grove Avenue. He was fined 50 dollars on that charge and 25 dollars on a public intoxication charge after appearing before Justice of the Peace Glenn Powers. Laurel A. Dippel, 17, of 867 Eighth Street, Marion, drove the other car. no injuries were reported.
Oswald E. Anderson Jr., 3640 Twelfth Ave SW, deputy municipal court bailiff, died Monday after a short illness. Born Dec 11, 1921 in Cedar Rapids, he married Thelma J. Fisher July 17, 1960 in Las Vegas. A World War II veteran, he led Hanford American Legion Post, belonged to 40 and 8, VFW and Eagles. Survived by wife, daughter Kristi Lynn, son Craig Allen, father O. E. Andersen, brother Martin S. Andersen, sister Mrs. William Petersen. services 3 p.m. Wednesday Turner Mortuary East. Cedar Memorial burial with American Legion honors. Casket will not be opened after service.
Gladys Lynch 3127 Waveland drive NW Cedar Rapids died Sunday after a long illness at age 18 years after birth in 1924. She married Richard J. Lynch February 11 1956 in Cedar Rapids and was a member of Alpha Omega Chapter of Epsilon Sigma Alpha. Survived by husband two sons James and Robert mother Freda Siebels Lisbon brother Fred Siebels Lisbon three sisters Mrs Glenn Wickham Walker Mrs DeWitt Stingley Rockford Ill and Mrs Garland Capron Anamosa. Former Cedar Rapids resident Collin B Martin died Saturday in Loveland Colorado after a brief illness. There are no Cedar Rapids survivors. Services are set for Tuesday at 2 30 p.m. in Loveland.
Memorial services are set at the Franklin Novertus Turner chapel east at 1 30 p m Tuesday led by Rev John I Thomas. Burial will follow at Linwood cemetery. Friends may call at the chapel until 1 p m Tuesday. The casket will not be opened after the service.
U S B 52 bombers carried out their heaviest raids in nine months against North Vietnamese supply depots in Laos and along the Cambodian border. About 60 planes dropped nearly 2000 tons of explosives from bases in Thailand Guam and Okinawa. Fourteen enemy soldiers were reported killed amid limited damage to trucks and warehouses. Officials noted heavy Ho Chi Minh Trail truck movement this year, with monsoon season past and Tet approaching.
A Wadena area farmer, Richard Wheeler aged 27, died Monday morning when he fell into an auger powered by a tractor while grinding hog feed two miles west of Wadena. His wife Irma found the body later. Burnham Wood funeral home in West Union to handle services. Survived by wife two sons and two daughters.
Phyllis F. Pence of 1415 First Avenue SE was charged with following too closely after an accident in front of 3902 First Avenue NE. Her vehicle rear ended a stopped car driven by John J. Bowers of 1429 Bower Avenue SE. A passenger, Ferdie Schwab Jr., 24, of 731 Twenty Fifth Street NE, was treated at Mercy hospital for a bump on the head and released.
Eight year old Kersten Lanes daughter of Mr and Mrs George Lanes of 2185 Brockman Avenue Marion sustained injuries in a sledding accident at Pinicon Ridge Park Central City on Sunday afternoon. She was treated at a Cedar Rapids hospital and released.
Thieves entered Jenkins Champlin service station at 4648 Johnson avenue NW and took about $10 in pennies from a coffee can marked for thieves only. Riverside Recreation Center at 1115 C street SW was entered Sunday with three vending machines pried open and about $9 to $10 missing. Art's Radio and TV at 1035 Second avenue SE reported a portable TV valued at $90 taken early Monday. Flower City Town and Country shopping center was entered Sunday night with nothing reported missing.

Wenger 18 of 1217 Twenty first Avenue SW were charged with larceny after allegedly stealing two rear tires and wheels from Opal Bliobenes 212 Fifth Avenue SW. Neve pled innocent and awaits municipal court appearance with $110 bond in Linn county jail. Evans released on own recognizance after deadline to plead. Wenger pled guilty with 30 day jail sentence suspended 90 days and placed on probation to Rev William Harnish.
Barry Christianson of 925 Sixteenth Avenue SW reported six checks were taken from his wife’s purse while attending a party on January 10. One check was later forged for 175 dollars.
Mexican made motor vehicles sales climbed 13.3 percent to 166,361 in 1969, the Mexican Automotive Industry Association reported.
