Chicago AP report details Thursday and Wednesday cattle hog and sheep run estimates from USDA. Buyers noted mixed hogs 190 to 340 pounds with varied prices, calves, steers, heifers, and cows listed across weight classes. Slaughter lambs showed gains up to 25 cents with the market reflecting utility and standard grades.
Des Moines buyers showed a slower day with receipts around 60 000 this week and 71 000 on Tuesday. Butchers declined to 12.00 to 13.35 per cwt across 180 to 240 lb ranges while heavier cattle traded 11.75 to 12.70. Sows weakened in some weight brackets from 8.60 to 12.15 per cwt depending on size.
Waterloo market reports steady hog prices with multiple weight brackets for sires and sows. Prices shown in ranges from 160 pounds through 400 pounds, highlighting shifts in value across light to heavy hogs and sows.
UPI reports cattle receipts around 4,500 and calves about 500 with fed steers steady to 50 cents higher on thin demand. Heifers rise up to 25 cents, some 50 cents in spots. Most choice steer prices around 26.75 to 27.00 per cwt for 1,200 pound or heavier cattle. top 27.00. Heifer prices peak at 27.50 for high choice and prime, with most choice 25.25 to 26.50 and good to low choice 22.00 to 25.00.
Wilson and Company operates hog and sheep markets on a limited call basis with delivery to the plant by arranging with hog or sheep departments. Veal calves are temporarily out of the market. Hog prices were steady with Tuesday weights 200-220 lbs at 13.10 to 13.60, packers 330 lbs and under at 11.10 to 11.50, and heavier carcasses discounted per additional 10 lbs. Plant delivered Wool prices and corn and soybeans figures are noted but partially unreadable.
In New York the stock market fell sharply as the session ended with industrials posting notable losses. Volume was about 2,600,000 shares with leading issues down around two points.

AP reports USDA data with demand spotty and total receipts at 1 158 000. Prices unchanged as offerings of large white eggs are plentiful while other classes remain short. Receipts include 23 100 mixed colors with extras 48 50 pounds at 29 dollars and 730 percent extras.
Cedar Rapids police reported nails strewn along a street near the Wilson and Co plant after 11 p.m. A tire was punctured on a patrol car. Burglars took more than 150 from Bill's 102 tavern early Wednesday and fled with 8 packs of cigarettes. They forced a restroom window to gain entry. Rudy's Shoe Repair at 211 Third Ave. SW was entered for the third time in under a year but yielded nothing. An attempted break-in was reported at T and L Market at 104 Third Ave. SW. Police suspect a rear window opening prevented entry.
Two boys ages 11 and 13 admitted thefts from Boulevard cafe at 3211 First Ave SE, taking 180 dollars and cigarets. They also linked to attempted break ins at Uptown Village and Sammy’s Sporting Goods. Police recovered 30 dollars and 14 cartons of cigarets at the cafe. They used the money for taxi rides and ice skates. one boy tossed coins to spark a scramble. They will be turned over to probation officers.
McDonnell Aircraft Corp of St. Louis proposes a two for one split of its common stock with a continued $1 dividend. Stockholders will vote at a special April meeting. President J S McDonnell projects earnings about 7 dollars a share for the year ending June 30, up from 5.87 the prior year. The firm is prime contractor on the Manned Satellite Mercury program with Collins Radio as a subcontractor.

With three days left, Cedar Rapids area aliens must file annual address reports by January 31. By Wednesday 411 forms were returned, far below prior years. Law requires all non citizens in the country on January 1 to file, with penalties up to deportation in some cases.
Donald L. Smith, formerly of Cedar Rapids, has been promoted from assistant bituminous engineer with the State Highway Commission at Ames to assistant district engineer at Sioux City. Smith, a 1949 Iowa State graduate, was assigned to the Cedar Rapids office in 1952-52. He is married to Marilyn Moats of Cedar Rapids.
Gas fumes from a leaky main spread through a crowded Tokyo area killing two people and injuring or overpowering nearly 100, authorities said early Wednesday.

U S Steel Corp earned 253 975 686 dollars or 4 24 a share in 1959 down from 301 302 643 dollars or 5 13 a share in 1958 due to a 116 day steel strike. Directors approve 75 cent dividend payable March 10 to holders of record February 5. Final quarter income was 30 162 326 dollars or 44 cents a share as operations began November 7.

Seventeen auto accidents were reported in a 12 hour period on icy Cedar Rapids streets with no injuries. Heavy late afternoon traffic on First Avenue caused four minor crashes and five incidents occurred on the southwest side of the city.

Julie Spicer 2 died from burns suffered January 14 after a kettle of hot water tipped when the lid gave way. She lived with Mr. and Mrs. Gerald S. Spicer of Hayesville and is survived by two sisters and several grandparents. Services will be at Hayesville church. body at Reynolds funeral home.

The Eastern Iowa Band Festival is scheduled for May 21, announced by the Junior Chamber of Commerce. The letter to bandmasters of about 160 Eastern Iowa schools notes 70 bands participated last year and mentions a nationally known band director who will entertain and educate attendees.
