Draft Pension Bill for Firemen and Police in Iowa
A new pension system for Iowa firemen and policemen under civil service would require four to five percent of salaries into a pension fund, lowering taxpayer costs. The plan, drafted after city associations met, would change the current one percent deduction and reduce taxpayers’ share from about 92 percent to 40 percent. It guarantees full pensions for those already under civil service and returns salary deductions to those who are discharged or resign. Endorsed by fire departments and police in major cities.
