Kirkwood Seeks New I J C A League for Athletes
Kirkwood Community College proposes a separate junior college league within Iowa to permit reduced or no athletic scholarships. Dr Selby Ballantyne announced the plan to Cedar Rapids officials, noting minimal out-of-state enrollment and questioning out-of-state recruiting. Rich Koolbeck says other schools have shown interest. Kirkwood funds scholarships from student fees and foundations, not athletics. Kirkwood’s women basketball and football scholarship details, team roster, and upcoming game against Waldorf are noted.
