Beginners Shine at VFW For 1950 Golden Gloves Trials

A Cedar Rapids VFW post 788 card showcased novice boxers as a prelude to the 1950 Golden Gloves. Kelly Darling and Junior Bragg fought at 135 pounds, Bob Rodriguez edged Jesse Chavez in 126 pounds, and Floyd Davie beat Guy Meskimen in 135. Ron Kahle rose from a late start to defeat Bill Stein in a crowd-pleasing bout. A burlesque grudge match and a March of Dimes collection by Charles Schroeder added local interest and charity.
