Freight train kills rabbit hunter near State Center
Karen L. Clayton, 27, of Marshalltown, was struck and killed by a Chicago & North Western freight train while rabbit hunting with a friend about one mile west of State Center Iowa on a Sunday. Her companion Lee Basset escaped injury. The medical examiner cited a right shoulder wound and a broken spine.

Fourth fatality in Ottumwa highway crash reported
A two car crash south of Ottumwa late Saturday killed four people. Steven Lord and Steven Throckmorton, both 32 and from Ottumwa, died at the scene. Brian McDaniel, 16, of Eldon, died at the scene. Jay Fite, 17, of Floris, died Monday at University Hospitals in Iowa City. McDaniel drove on the right shoulder to pass before losing control. Lord’s vehicle struck McDaniel’s car, nearly shearing it in half.
