Talmadge proposes farm aid plan for debt relief
Sen. Herman E. Talmadge outlined a plan to use discretionary authority to pay farmers to idle land, raise price supports by 50 cents a bushel, and expand excess peanut supports, estimating $7.54 billion in federal funds without new legislation to aid debt strapped farmers amid ongoing strike. About 200 protesters voiced disappointment over limited immediate relief.
