The Environmental Protection Agency announces nationwide rules to limit chloroform and related organic chemicals in tap water and to use carbon filtration in plants with contaminated sources. Omaha and Des Moines are among 80 affected cities, with costs projected up to 450 million dollars and annual operating costs around 60 million.
Acting president Dr. Charles B. Clark announced the dismissal of 11 Upper Iowa University students for violations of college rules, vandalism, and misconduct. Additional students were placed on disciplinary probation, with a plan for stricter enforcement by local police and a campus patrol, alongside suspension of 30 students for academic deficiency.
