Judge Denies WellCare Bid to Stay Open Iowa Medicaid
District Judge Robert Blink rejected WellCare of Iowa’s request to pause operations while it appeals an arbiter’s decision to cancel its Medicaid contract. The ruling affects about 134,000 WellCare-enrolled recipients who will be reassigned to AmeriHealth Caritas, Amerigroup Iowa and UnitedHealthcare of the River Valley, with changes in coverage deadlines outlined by DHS. WellCare plans to appeal on Feb. 1 while Aetna Better Health of Iowa also had its bid-restart request denied.
