Cedar Rapids police nabbed E A Drummond 29 Marion after a Tuesday evening collision with a car owned by Herbert MacCready Minneapolis. Drummond admitted driving the vehicle and pled guilty before Justice H R Churchill, fined 10 dollars and costs with the fine suspended. No injuries and no other arrests in five accidents reported Wednesday.
Vichy France accepted Japanese mediation offers in the undeclared border warfare between French Indo China and Siam. An authoritative source said French colonial leaders pressed for U S mediation and that Berlin suggested Japanese intervention to exclude American influence.
Reports from London and Belgrade indicate Antonescu regaining control in Romania as 30000 Iron Guardsmen clash with loyal army and police. Berlin cites Sima calling for ceasefire while 40 killed in Praila and a 600-strong rebel force shells the Pettrovicescu building.

In Oakland a doctor sent Frank Gonsalves with his newborn daughter to the Alameda County Hospital. He placed the four pound infant in a shoe box and began hitchhiking ten miles to the hospital. Police found both and transported them. the baby was in an incubator and doing well.
Colonel Charles A. Lindbergh told the House Foreign Affairs Committee that no alliance of the United States and Britain could win the European war under the current terms and urged a negotiated peace. He argued war should be avoided, opposed lease lend aid as a step toward war, and said Europe would be more peaceful if the US stayed out of its wars. He favored maintaining strong American defenses and expanding bases to deter invasion, while predicting aid to Britain would raise bloodshed without changing outcomes.
