Cedar Rapids Jury Tickets Exemptions Stir Bonding Concerns
Cedar Rapids routinely excuses about 300 parking tickets monthly for jurors and city staff. The practice shifts costs to the city, raising bond concerns tied to meters revenue for parking facilities. Officials consider identifying juror cars to avoid future exemptions and potential bonding impacts.

Science students pedal for power at Richmond Township
Twenty science students at Richmond Township Elementary School built a foot powered generating plant from parent and staff parts. The bicycle generator lit the classroom Christmas tree last year and will power future projects. Over 45 days of 45 minute sessions they pedaled about 200 miles, producing two kilowatt hours worth about 8 cents of electricity with help from General Public Utilities Corp.
