Waxy Maize Seed Growers Expand From Vinton Farm

At the Reiss family farm near Vinton Iowa waxy maize hybrid seed is produced for seed increase. The Iowa State College agricultural development committee promoted hybrid 4297 and seed stock is shipped to Midwest growers. Demand has fluctuated with tapioca markets. growers anticipate smaller plantings in 1950 and a limited launch for next year.

Farmers Face Another $2 Billion Income Drop Advised

Secretary Brannan told a House subcommittee that farm cash income fell by $2.0 billion over the last two years and may drop another $2.0 billion in 1950. He cited a $1.0 billion rise in farm expenses since 1947 and warned many operators would struggle to cover costs and live.
