Veterans rescued by coast guard in Miami arrival
Twenty four home-hungry veterans of the European war, aboard the freighter Thomas J. Jarvis from Barry Wales, were diverted to New Orleans then to Florida after seeking to land in the United States. A coast guard cutter met the ship off the sea buoy and transferred the men to land in Miami. They expressed relief and refused blame, noting they merely wanted to land at a U S port within their orders. Captain R G Williams of St Petersburg Florida reported the scene and one pilot, a former POW, echoed the sentiment.
