Tanager Center Opens Katz School With Medical Clinic
The Katz Center on the Tanager Place campus in Cedar Rapids houses a medical clinic alongside six classrooms. The building funded by the Katz Foundation and others supports 36 students in kindergarten through 12th grade and adds 12 residential beds for total capacity of 83. Residents attend local public schools when not in class.

Education report shows gains in Cedar Rapids area districts
The 2004 communitywide school report card for Cedar Rapids area districts shows improved fourth grade math and reading proficiency. Marion rose from 77.1 to 87.2 percent in math and 69.2 to 88.3 percent in reading. College Community also posted gains with 84 percent in math and 82.3 percent in reading. District officials credit targeted early reading initiatives and data driven professional development, noting continued work toward universal proficiency. The report covers 2002 and 2003 data for Cedar Rapids, College Community, Linn Marion, Marion and Cedar Rapids Metropolitan Catholic schools.

Veteran Cedar Rapids physician Dr. Richard Sedlacek wins the fifth annual Percy and Lileah Harris Who is My Neighbor Award announced during the MLK Day observance at St. Pauls United Methodist Church.
