Richard D. Ritchison Accused of Assault

Richard D. Ritchison, 34, of 195 Mayden avenue SW, was arrested on a warrant issued by Justice of the Peace Vince Hart for assault and battery. He posted $110 bond and was released. He is accused of punching Douglas Jacoby, 902 Eighth street SW, in the eye at DJ's Restaurant and Lounge in Bowling Street and Waconia avenue SW on Wednesday night.

Reactor shipment rerouted to Urbana corridor

Nuclear Load II rerouted from Cedar Rapids to Urbana via highways 150 and 101 due to a weak Palo bridge. Nine axle trailer units exceed two lane road width, 24 feet, and require state highway commission permission and escorts. A bridge over a bridge will bypass two county bridges while a $4 million liability policy backs the move.

State Acquires More Land for Road Projects

The highway commission expanded Iowa road work by purchasing parcels in Linn Johnson and Delaware counties for interstates and freeways. Buyers include Vernon Lustick and Edna Goettle among others, with prices ranging from 250 to 59,450 dollars. Condemnation actions were authorized against George D. Lumbus, Leo R. Leach, and Iowa Illinois Gas and Electric for parcels in Linn and Johnson counties.

Icy road conditions from freezing mist clogged Interstate 80 linking Coralville Iowa City West Branch and nearby interchanges. A three car crash on First Avenue East involved a Marion police squad car. Officers say James E Evans skid on ice, striking James Logsdon vehicle which then hit the squad car. Two people treated and released. Evans charged with failure to drive at a careful speed.
