Man Fined Dollar a Bull For Drunkenness In Cedar Rapids
In Cedar Rapids police court Saturday morning Clayton Markham, 44, received the maximum $100 or 30 days for drunkenness after being arrested near Circle bar. He admitted driving a truck and drinking three beers and whisky. A man pled guilty to drunkenness and was fined $10 or a dollar a bull for tending 10 bulls at Hawkeye Downs before next week’s Hereford show. Earl L Fowler, 39, was fined $25 and costs for drunkenness and disturbing the peace after his wife charged he had run her from their trailer and threatened her.

Mr and Mrs Wilbur Davis were fired on while driving home five miles south of town. Their car was hit. they hid in a farm yard as a man shot again, leaving Mrs Davis’s purse. Sheriff Ed Husley searches for the 25 to 35 year old suspect, finding a .22 shell and slug at the scene.

Drunk Driving Suspect Held On Bond After Traffic Stop
Donald E. Hefflefinger, 29, of 2017 O Avenue NW, was ordered by Judge Floyd Philbrick to plead to a drunk driving charge by 10 a.m. Tuesday. Bond was set at $500 after Cedar Rapids police stopped his car at Twelfth Avenue and Fourth Street SE Friday night. Officers noticed him slumped over the wheel during a switch engine stop and arrested him as they were returning to the station with a different drunkenness charge.

Bank burglary suspects held in Linn County jail
A second federal prisoner charged with bank burglary was placed in Linn County jail Friday. Kenneth A. Kitts, 37, of Omaha, was jailed by a U S deputy marshal. Douglas Hardy, 32, of Tyler, Texas, was jailed here Dec 23 by the marshal. Both men are charged in connection with the Laurens bank robbery last year and await federal arraignment in Cedar Rapids Monday.

Three speeding fines were levied Saturday in police court and a 13-year-old boy was given a $10 fine for driving without a driver's license. Heavier fines went to Alonzo F. Brown for speeding 50 in a 25 zone on First Avenue E. Gerald Hartley faced $20 for 45 mph on icy streets. Gordon F. Gossman paid $10 for 44 in a 25 zone. The youth appeared with his father. the judge suspended the fine on payment of $1.75. Tipton Man Hurt In Auto Accident
Newell Huber a 57 year old Tipton resident was treated for a broken nose after a Saturday morning auto crash at Thirty second street and Center Point road NE in Cedar Rapids. He was a passenger in a car driven by Glen Agne of Tipton. Ruth Cadwallader of 5014 Center Point road drove the southbound car. Cadwallader turned left and collided with the Agne vehicle. Huber was taken to St Luke's Hospital by ambulance. Police noted icy streets prevented charges. Three other minor accidents occurred that morning due to the same icy conditions.

Deaths Samuel Kenny 82 Former Cedar Rapids resident
Samuel Kenny, 82, died in California Sunday after a three years illness. Born in County Antrim Ireland he came to Cedar Rapids in 1889 and worked as a bookkeeper for Sinclair Packing Company. He married Lucy Spencer in 1896 and moved to California in 1906 becoming a California Packing Company accountant and an astronomy hobbyist. He built his own English style house where Mrs. Kenny now lives. Surviving are three children Stanhope Kenny Burlingame Calif Margaret Anderson Palo Alto and George Kenny Palo Alto and five grandchildren.
