Old Jet memorial near Iowa City Airport history
The F86 Sabrejet known as Old Jet, donated in 1963 to honor POWs and MIAs, was neglected and removed from the Iowa City Airport lot in 1977. Veterans fought the move, a restoration cost about 2500 dollars, and the city urged repair, with ownership disputed among the university ROTC unit, airport commission, and veterans groups.
