New District Engineer Takes Over Rock Island Post
Col James E Bunch will assume duties as district director of the Rock Island district of the U S Army Corps of Engineers Monday succeeding Col Walter C Gelini who becomes commanding officer at Fort Belvoir Va Gelini had led since July 1967 The Rock Island district covers about 58300 square miles in parts of Illinois Wisconsin Iowa Missouri and Minnesota and handles flood control navigation flood plain reports and procurement and research for the Corps Bunch previously led the Lake Survey district in Detroit serving since 1967 He was born September 29 1921 in Comanche Oklahoma and is a graduate of Oklahoma State Iowa State University Army schools and the Army War College He has served in Vietnam and held posts at Fort Belvoir Goose Bay Labrador Fort Wainwright Alaska Fort Wolters Texas and Washington DC He is married to Laura Whitener and has two daughters.
