81 funding break for family services
The Family Service Agency reported to its Linn County board that 1980 met its goals but 1981 may face funding shortfalls. United Way cuts and Title 20 gaps threaten counseling and homemaker services, with 140 to 200 clients at risk if restored funding does not arrive. U.S. District Judge Edward McManus ordered Linn County Jail officials to show cause by February 6 why they should not be held in contempt for limiting ministerial visits. The contempt move accompanies a $100,000 suit filed by John Fichtner claiming rights to religious accommodation and dietary provisions were violated.
