Fire destroys Cascade turf equipment plant. investigating cause
The State Fire Marshal will probe a Sunday fire at American Iowa Manufacturing off Highway 151 that destroyed the Cascade turf equipment maker. About 30 employees worked there. no one was inside. Fire Chief Rick Kremer says the blaze started in a painting area and did not appear suspicious. More than 50 firefighters from Cascade, Monticello, and Bernard fought the flames for about five hours. The company has a second building to continue some operations. Cascade, population 1,900, lies roughly 40 miles northeast of Cedar Rapids.

Fire damages Hilltop Lounge in Iowa City
A Sunday morning blaze damaged the Hilltop Lounge at 1100 N. Dodge St injuring no one, while displacing tenant Brian Cardwell. Firefighters forced entry to check spread as Red Cross found Cardwell housing. Bar owner Linda Kundl reported smoke from the kitchen. this follows a September fire that destroyed her other bar Mabel's Bardello & Eatery.
