Haddad Dies, Israel Laments Close Lebanese Ally

Maj Saad Haddad who led a pro Israeli militia in southern Lebanon died of cancer at his home in Marjayoun aged 54. Haddad long backed by Israel mentored a border militia, was reinstated in the Lebanese army by a Beirut court, and his death affects the balance as Israel plans to withdraw and hand over security to Lebanese forces or local militias.
