A Cedar Rapids area report shows a man recounted his wife’s tale about a car in the living room as a joke. Journalists note the peculiar claim drew attention in lifestyle notes and local humor pages.

A police sting at a fencing site at 520 Fourth Ave SE opened June 29 1987 and closed Jan 8. 371 items fenced 239 owned by others identified. Police paid 34225 between Aug 8 1987 and Jan 8. Property valued about 266681. 41 burglary and 27 theft cases cleared. 44 defendants 18 arrested. 26 more charged pending. Items fenced include guns audio computers communications misc and jewelry.
Victims of a October burglary had $25,000 in computer gear stolen from Voelker’s office supply business. The items were moved to a nearby storefront that hid an undercover fencing operation buying back stolen property. State agents purchased the goods next door while Voelker’s warehouse crews worked.
