Homma on trial resembles banker more than warrior
Hal Boyle profiles Lt. Gen Masaharu Homma in a Manila courtroom after his capture for war crimes. The portrait contrasts a polished, bankerlike appearance with the brutal charges of killing thousands, including prisoners from Bataan. Witnesses recount atrocities as Homma observes, recording notes, smiling but without remorse, facing execution as a line murderer rather than a battlefield soldier.
