Admiral Kimmel says Navy withheld Pearl Harbor data
Rear Admiral Husband E. Kimmel told a congressional Pearl Harbor committee his Pacific fleet was deprived of vital intercepts before December 7 1941 and could have intercepted the Japanese strike if warned. He condemned misled information and defended his record while denying personal fault. He cited seven intercepted messages decoded before Dec 7 detailing Japan's plans, none sent to Hawaii. He urged vindication and noted Forrestal’s ruling restricting his later positions.
