First Lady Target of Klan Plot
Congressional investigators charged that a 38 year old Mississippi man, Louis Anthony Disalvo of Waveland, proposed bombing a train carrying Mrs. Johnson in 1964. Disalvo invoked the Fifth Amendment and refused to answer questions. The House Un American Activities Committee said he ran a barber shop, a gas station, and sold firearms to Klan members, and once tried to organize a firing squad. Contempt citations for seven Klan leaders were approved for grand jury action.
