Marion zoning changes approved and new commission named
The Marion planning and zoning commission welcomed new members led by Chairman Mrs Don Kensinger. Dale Wears and Don Washburn were appointed to fill vacancies, while Hugh Gordon was reappointed. The commission recommended rezoning 8 acres near Linwood Knolls from A-L rural restricted to A-2 residential and approved another change to reclassify the roller rink site on Thirty-fifth Street from A-1 rural restricted to I-2 heavy industrial. A pending petition for vacation of 20 feet of Central Avenue right of way at Third Street was discussed, with Rowe speaking on civic matters and Rowe’s background noted. Final plats approved included Thomas E. McGowan’s Twenty-Sixth addition and McGowan’s Twenty-Seventh addition facing nearby school. The city water department property sale to Town Electric Light and Power Co. for a substation was approved, with area already zoned for such a structure. Residents’ license plate service program continues with a mailing deadline near the end of January.
