Open Verdict In Death Of M. J. Stroud
A coroner’s jury returned an open verdict in the death of M. J. Stroud of Cedar Rapids who was killed when his automobile collided with a Rock Island Rocket at a grade crossing at Atalissa Iowa. Train fireman O. V. McConaughey testified Stroud died of head and chest injuries and engineer Harry E. Wright said the car sped up near the crossing despite sounding signals. Stroud’s body will be taken to Cedar Rapids for funeral services Saturday at 10 a.m. and Sunday in Grinnell with burial in Woodland Cemetery.
