Iowa utilities criticized for tax overcharges and high rates
A CARG survey shows Iowa electric utilities paid far less federal taxes than charged, creating sizeable overcharges in 1976. Iowa Power & Light and others kept tax credits and deferrals that reduced actual tax payments, while rates rose and residential charges exceeded industrial bills. The report urges scrutiny of consumer costs and political spending by utilities.
