The Cedar Rapids area forecast calls for five days of below normal temperatures with Saturday through Wednesday averaging 5 to 10 degrees below normal. Normal highs and lows are 25 to 32 and 8 to 15 respectively. Snow accumulation of one quarter to one half inch is expected mainly over the weekend as a warming trend begins Monday.
A two car crash at Fifth street NW and L avenue left two injured. William Howrey 22 of 2925 Johnson avenue NW drove a 1970 model south on Fifth and struck JoAnn Danly 1403 Fifth street NW traveling east on L. Howrey’s car hit two trees and was demolished. Howrey treated for scalp laceration and released. passenger Bill Shears 1318 First street NW treated for possible back and neck injuries and released. No charges filed.
After weeks of testimony, the Chappaquiddick inquest ends with five young women and Miss Kopechne present. District Attorney Edmund Dinis will decide whether to prosecute Kennedy or others by presenting the case to a grand jury, with Boyle to file a report soon. Kennedy remains at Hyannis Port. Kopechne family denies a lawsuit, suggesting an accidental death policy may settle car insurance matters.
The Bodensteiner vehicle sustained $1,000 in damage, the signal vehicle $200, and the Brekke auto $600, detailing the incident costs and involved parties in the report.

Linn county grand jury indicted Richard S. Zacek 29 for first degree murder in the Oct 19 slaying of Washington high school senior Jean Halverson. Zacek held without bond for court ordered psychiatric exam. Seven indictments were returned. others charged include arson, assault with intent to injure, crank driving, and uttering a forged instrument.
Kenneth D. Fisher Jr., 25, of 11102 Glassroad NE, appeared in municipal court and received a 30 day suspended sentence for assault and battery. police say he assaulted his ex wife Cheryl Fisher at her home, knocked her down, beat her, and attempted to run her over in his car. Two related charges remain pending in municipal court.
More than 20,000 Okinawan workers on U S military bases stayed home to protest the dismissal of 1,200 workers in an economy move, signaling broad labor discontent in the bases economy and potential disruption to operations.
County Atty William Faches said the grand jury found the officer used more force than necessary to arrest for a traffic violation but no charges would be filed. The panel investigated a car pedestrian accident in which Marvin Oxley of Marion was fatally injured. the driver had earlier been sentenced for failure to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk.

George Romney says the nation faces a shortage of 2.5 million houses the worst since World War II. He cites inflation and lack of home-building funds, warning the anti inflation tight money policy worsens the shortage unless the Nixon budget is balanced.

In Iowa City a Saturday noon meeting at the Security Medical facility will be closed to the press. State Sen Minnette Doderer says the purpose is to acquaint medical and judicial professionals with the Oakdale facilities programs and problems. The Johnson County grand jury was meeting there Friday but details were not disclosed.
