Iowa pupils share rural life in scrapbook for Belgian students
Ten Story school pupils in Linn county compiled a scrapbook about Iowa rural life for Belgian peers. The Junior Red Cross leaders organized the project, with teacher Mrs Bowdish and Mrs Myers guiding the effort. The album features letters, drawings, and photos detailing a dairy farm, school, 4 H calf, corn yields, and daily life.

Des Moines Iowa December sales at Iowa state liquor stores reached 5 244 258 up from December 1948 and higher than November sales by 1 750 000 reflecting strong holiday buying. The Iowa Liquor Commission noted volumes rose 35 000 last month versus the prior year and 90 185 above last month’s level.

Anti-Freeze Cocktails Kill Iowa Lumberjacks
Three lumberjacks died after a bunkhouse party where they drank cocktails made from auto anti freeze. Victims were Allan Dickey 38 from Iowa Elmer McCaw 52 of Audubon Iowa and Fred Corrigan from Glens Falls New York. Police traced the poison to radiator coolant and a can found in a car rear seat. All died en route or soon after arrival at the hospital.

Two 15-Year-Olds Sentenced After Johnston Highway Shooting
Des Moines AP reports two 15-year-olds arrested after a Dec 26 highway shooting near Johnston were sentenced. One youth received probation and Eldora’s Iowa Training School for Boys. the other was also sent to the training school while the first was placed in the Polk County Juvenile Home for further action. They rode with 18-year-old Robert Shiffer, who is serving a 30-day jail term for reckless driving.
