Bridge collapses after truck hits support beam in Iowa
A 107 year old bridge on Cosgrove Road in Johnson County collapsed Thursday night after a pickup driven by Kevin J. Campbell veered and struck a steel support frame. Campbell, 48, from Kalona, was cited for drunken driving with a blood alcohol level of 0.147. The one lane bridge, built in 1900, may be replaced at a preliminary cost of 300000 to 400000, with a year to complete if approved. Campbells injuries were minor and he was released after an initial court appearance. Authorities say the bridge may remain closed pending decisions on replacement and funding.
