Marion Public Services Director Jack Bross notes heavy snowfall strains the budget as crews work around the clock since Friday to clear streets. The Sunday night emergency halted by midday Monday allowed main routes to reopen and shifted debris removal to residential areas.
Mayor Don Canney declared a snow emergency as ten inches fell with strong winds causing road closures and equipment breakdowns. Crews opened roads gradually, with 75 percent cleared to one way by Monday night, and plans to widen streets on Tuesday.
Linn County Supervisor Kenneth Schriner announced Monday he will run for re election to the Board of Supervisors in November. A 25 year Wilson Foods employee on leave to serve, Schriner 56 was appointed Sept 5 1977 to replace Stanley Ginsberg and won the 1978 primary and the 1978 general. He now serves as county liaison to the Conservation Board the Board of Social Welfare and road crews.
Fire department logs from Marion detail multiple medical assists and service calls across Friday and Saturday. Notable incidents include medical aid at Hillview Drive 960 and fires at Eighth Avenue 40344 and various street intersections. Units responded to 10th Avenue 2090 and 44th Street 1174, plus 11th Street locations and Boyson Road with Alburnett Road intersections.
