Nervous breakdown theory challenged by UC psychiatrist

Berkeley reports Dr M C Reid of the University of California rejects the idea of a nervous breakdown as a medical condition. He calls it a mental compromise where a student deserts concentration at finals, with the conscious mind persisting and the unconscious escaping responsibility. Relaxation aids recovery and many cases reflect avoidance rather than true illness.
