New Year Sleety Crashes Prompt City Police Lockdown

A New Year sleet storm sparked a spike in accidents across the city overnight. Police reported two serious crashes with several injuries but no fatalities.Robert Stinacher of Town City collided with CIC Wears of Swish when Wears’ car was hit by John La Livermore on highway 218. Livermore suffered a head injury. Stinecher passenger Francis Stinecher received a jaw wound. Harriet South sustained knee and ankle injuries. Mrs. Agnes Barnes was injured in a separate taxi crash at 2nd Street NE. No charges were listed as pavement conditions were blamed.

Runaway 13 Year Old Charley Crawford Tours Florida

A 13 year old boy Charley Crawford ran away from Day City to Florida aboard a Pullman on December 27. He traveled 1410 miles to Breakers hotel in Palm Beach where he bought a cowboy outfit flashlight and a knife with $27 found in a wallet. He resisted two men at gunpoint but was stopped by police before causing harm. He was detained at the Breakers and later talked of spending his vacation in Florida with new friends. His mother, Mrs Tommy Crawford, was alerted and may arrange return transport or funds.

Oil Country In Louisiana Laid Waste

Disaster workers searched for more tornado victims in Cotton Valley Louisiana after a New Year’s Eve storm tore through Red River valley. At least 27 people died and up to 209 were injured as homes, farms, wells and refineries were ruined. Guardsmen patrolled debris filled streets while aid poured in from Minden and nearby towns.
