Coroner jury returned an open verdict in the death of RM DeLong a 61 year old farmer found dead at his Maynard farm home late Sunday. Witness Mrs Ella Phillips DeLong testified she moved the gun after finding the body and later returned it to the kitchen table. The jury found the bullet from a .32 revolver caused the death but offered no conclusion on who fired it or manner of death. DeLong is survived by son George DeLong of Maynard three sisters and two children. Autopsy performed fingerprints taken. Coroner W E Walsh noted the shooting time around 3 30 p m and that Mrs DeLong telephoned for help.
New York reports the costliest New Year celebration since 1929 with Broadway lights drawing thousands. Traffic was restricted, crowds filled streets, and venues charged up to 20 dollars per person for upscale New Year events while a special license allowed 4 a.m. sales until 8 a.m. Tuesday. Chicago also planned an elaborate New Year’s Eve with few restraints as repeal marks its second celebration.
