Iowa passes tax bill sending measure to Governor Ray
The Iowa Legislature gave final approval to a revenue update tax bill this week. It expands incentives for retirement funds depreciation and childcare while raising state income taxes by about 38 million dollars next year. Governor Ray, who has serious reservations, is expected to sign. The week also saw debate over barge fleeting rules and school district aid, plus a drunk driving bill with new permit restrictions. Rep Kenneth Miller died of cancer, and House sessions were affected by his funeral. Linn County Democrats passed Vietnam War resolutions amid heated exchanges.
