Donald Curran a 39 year old patient from Schick hospital in Clinton. He telephoned threats saying he would kill himself and everyone else then fired at a Cedar Rapids home wounding windows and firing toward a patrol car. He surrendered after officers arrived and is held for investigation.

Howard R. Churchill a Cedar Rapids justice of the peace for 13 years and former Linn county supervisor died at his home after a sudden illness at age 76. Born July 10 1873 he served in multiple county offices and was admitted to the bar in 1906. He leaves wife Hazel a son and a daughter, two sisters a brother and two grandchildren.
