Kansas City cattle futures show fed steers 50 to 75 cents lower with some declines up to $1.00. Fed heifers down 50 cents, beef cows steady, canners and cutters down 50 cents, bulls up to 50 cents. Weaker calves and weaners steady to $1.00 lower. Example prices include Nebraska fed cattle at 36.50 to 36.50 and canners 14.00 to 16.25, top bulls at 20.00.
Omaha cattle prices show fed steers steady to lower across grades with lower finishing grades down up to 50 cents. Heifers mostly steady while cows, bulls and vealers vary. stocker and feeder cattle rise up to 50 cents. Notable tops include Good to choice 1 023 lb fed steers at 30.50 and 375 lb steer calves at 33.00 with various weights and prices listed.
Cedar Rapids hog market prices advanced a quarter on Saturday. Prime butchers brought $17.25 per hundredweight and packers paid $15.00 for hogs weighed at the Cedar Rapids plant.

The Marion World Day of Prayer union observed at the Vinton Methodist church featured Rev. R Park Anderson speaking on The Faith of Our Times. Ninety nine attendees registered as officers were installed in the Marion Women's Missionary Union and lay services planned for Laymen's Day at the Presbyterian church.

Washington AP reports the soft coal dispute cut national stocks by about 199 million tons, roughly four months of normal output. Figures compare production from June 13 to Feb 11 during 1949-50 with the same period in 1948-49, showing a drop from 404.8 million to about 223.8 million tons.
Passersby on icy streets in Roselle Park New Jersey watched a commuter glide to the railroad station with his business shoes tucked under his arm in a poised and genteel display.
In Des Moines Sioux City and Waterloo about 64 Communications Workers of America members walked out Friday in protest of a 60 day postponement of a nationwide telephone strike. Des Moines saw 30 walkouts and Waterloo 20 with return dates unclear. Sioux City reported 14 leaving after a noon vote, with a Monday return expected. The workers are Western Electric installers and maintenance staff.
A fire gutted the supports of the twin Decorah bridges on the Upper Iowa river Friday as flood work raised the spans seven feet. The north 50 foot section toppled into the river after a kerosene heater tipped during construction by Otto Aschbach Construction of St. Paul. Piling flames spread to the north approach. no damage estimate given though bridge-raising contract tops $31,000. The firm carried no insurance, per a foreman.
Samuel F Raff aged 69 died Friday after a long illness. Born in Maquoketa on November 3 1880 he moved to Springville in 1899 and worked as a barber for fifty years. He is survived by wife Floy Shanklin two sons Harry B Raff in Japan and S F Raff Jr of Cincinnati. Leonard T Raff died recently. Services Monday at 2 p.m. at Hunte Funeral Home with Springville Cemetery burial.
Sigourney residents rejected a $125000 water system upgrade with a 403 to 281 vote. The plan sought a new well pumps and a three story storage tanks and softener building.
Senate Democratic Leader Lucas supports abolishing a special Senate committee on government employment led by Sen. Byrd. Sen. Humphrey introduced the bill to end the panel, saying it costs hundreds of thousands of dollars and serves no useful function. Lucas called it a duplication of effort and favoring abolition. Byrd has long defended economy and reported federal employee trends monthly.
Tokyo police arrested 20 year old Hiroshi Takahashi for pocket picking. While questioned he stole 800 yen from a drawer and 350 yen from a second prisoner. Prisoners alerted officers before completion of any larger theft.

The Iowa Bonus Board reports over 200000 in bonus payments with 249771 claims received and 200896 fully investigated. Total payments amount to 74456569 with 198121 checks mailed. highest check number is 237176. Secretary Ed Kallemyn says about 18000 veterans will wait until next year for funds, as 85000000 covers only part of valid claims and 6600000 more will be sought in 1951 legislation. A Polk County veteran returned 120 of his 370 check due to service record error.
Frisbie 36 of Marshalltown pled guilty to murdering Loren Stull 29 of Tama in a Rainbow tavern Christmas Eve. Judge Tankersley set a Wednesday hearing to determine degree. no degree charged in the information. Frisbie stabbed Stull while Stull was with Frisbie's former wife Marie Wauters. He has undergone mental examinations at Independence and Iowa City.
In Newton Iowa on icy pavement a semi trailer skidded and struck the side of a school bus carrying 15 children. Ten pupils received bruises and shock but none were hospitalized. Bus driver Thomas Bennett of Newton and truck driver George W Knox of Des Moines were uninjured.
Alfred Heacock aged 32 was found shot to death Friday night about a mile from his home near Rockdale. Two motorists discovered his body along the highway four and a half miles south of Dubuque. Police report a head wound from a .22 caliber rifle with the rifle found near the body.
Two Cedar Rapids students Lorraine Perley and Marianna Stevens were among 35 new members accepted into the University of Iowa Scottish Highlanders at the Highland Fling. Also initiated were Nancy Hunt Tipton Elizabeth Wilson Monticello and Marjorie Brickner Decorah.
Charles City, Iowa AP Gordon Churchill operator of the Castle club was indicted by the Floyd county grand jury on an arson charge for a 1947 fire that destroyed a nightclub under construction near highways 18 and 218. He posted a 5000 dollar bond after arrest, facing civil suit for 75000 dollars, and recently announced plans to move to Pipestone Minnesota. Churchill resigned as manager of the Castle club amid accompanying tensions.
Franta Meissner a 24 year old Czech research fellow at Iowa State College said he did not misrepresent his purpose in entering the United States. He faces possible deportation over alleged discrepancies in immigration papers and maintains his entry purpose was to be a research fellow.
AFL local president Lester Parcel said National City Lines of Chicago asked to resume negotiations over the Ottumwa City Lines strike. Union drivers and mechanics have been on strike since December 27, 1949 for a 20 cent hourly raise from 1.10. The city canceled the license. the firm appealed to district court and may seek Iowa Supreme Court review.
Mrs. Amy L. Kentner 83 charter member of Tama American Legion Auxiliary died Friday. A former teacher, practical nurse and cook at Tama County Home she is survived by husband, daughter Mrs Edwin C Carnal of Tama, son Harold of Wyoming, sister in California, four grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Services set for 2 p.m. Sunday at Harrison funeral home.
Clarence Iowa 29 year old Howard L Blake sustained injuries when his tractor overturned into a ditch along a highway seven miles south of Clarence late Friday. He was thrown against steel posts and transported to Mercy hospital in Cedar Rapids with his condition reported fair today.
Joseph Bird of Montpelier Iowa died today at age twelve from a tetanus infection traced to a minor scratch suffered in a coasting accident a week earlier.
