Park Officials and Teen Killed in Deming Crash

Rail brakeman Hayes Ridge Killed On Rock Island Train Near Nichols
Hayes E Ridge a Rock Island brakeman from 832 Sixth Avenue SE died early Tuesday after falling from a northbound passenger train near Nichols. He struck a switch stand, suffering a broken neck and head injuries. his body was found by a southbound train at West Liberty. Ridge, born March 13 1878 in Athegerstown Maryland, had worked for the railroad since 1912 and was married December 31 1917 to Ina Pearl McKibben. He leaves a wife a son William three brothers Nobe Luther Ridge and Dan Ridge and a niece Mrs George Fry. He belonged to Crescent Masonic lodge and Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen lodge 873.
