Welfare board acts on food stamp fraud claim in Linn County

The Linn County Welfare Board met to address a Department of Agriculture notice demanding 8632 dollars for food stamps lost to fraud by two county employees in 1973. Board member Jean Oxley urged sending a reply questioning action at the time and the fraud finding. The panel also reviewed a child abuse unit status report showing 211 abuse cases in 1977 with about three quarters valid, and discussed extending Iowa law to cover neglect and other abuse types. District 10 DSS administrator Roger Reid noted potential federal funds to align state law and that five county staff may be insufficient for a broader scope.
