Linn Haven Life Care Facility Permit Denied in Marion
Marion board of adjustment denied Linn Haven Inc a special permit to open a life care facility for mentally retarded adults at 1890 Tenth Street. The 3-1 vote with one abstention followed nearly an hour of public input. John Schlotterback supported the permit while Donald Bateman Neil Garnatz and Ronald Van Note opposed. Charles Kent abstained. Janet Wagner of the Linn County Association for the Mentally Retarded lamented the decision.

Hog theft hits La Porte area farm. 37 hogs lost
Raymond Nemeyer reported 30 hogs stolen on February 17 and the remaining pen was cleared Tuesday. In total 37 hogs valued at about 3700 dollars have been taken from his farm near La Porte. Investigation is continuing.
