Linn-Mar Spring Concert Sizzles With Bands and Choruses
Linn-Mar high school presents its annual spring concert Friday at 7 30 p m in the gym. Norman Meyer directs the instrumental groups Bryan Thompson leads the vocal groups and the program includes Sunburst Bacharach and David Medley and Theme and Rock Out with arrangements by Cacavas. The boys chorus performs This Guy s in Love with You and Goodbye while the girls chorus sings Theme from Midnight Cowboy and This On Riverboat. Chamber choir offers three madrigals and the concert choir performs The Sweetheart Tree and Which Way America with various arrangers. The stage band presents The New Generation The Funky Turtle Jump for Jennie Bossa Nossa Movin Up. Swing choir selections include A new Dimension I ve Gotta Be Me No Time for Lookin Behind Close to You and Man s Gotta Go Somewhere with multiple soloists. Admission charged.

Cliff Rescue Ends 15 Day Peak Ordeal
CHAMONIX France AP rescuers dropped by helicopter into Mont Blanc to reach Rene Desmaison 41 alive after a 15 day freezing ordeal on a rock cliff. His partner Serge Gousseault 24 lay dead in a red tent as they attempted the first winter ascent of the Grandes Jorasses wall. Desmaison was flown to hospital for treatment after food ran out and shelter deteriorated.

French Italian rescuers reach stranded climbers on avalanche hit slope
Desmaison and two other climbers faced a brutal climb prevented by weather and avalanches. After seven days only 100 feet gained, violent winds hampered helicopter rescues. On Thursday five rescuers were lowered to within 100 yards of the bivouac, led by Chamonix Mayor Maurice Herzog who previously conquered Annapurna.
