Iowa women applying to West Point Annapolis and the Air Force Academy fell to 6.8 percent of qualified applicants from 8 percent as figures show. Eight Iowa women were admitted last summer five to West Point one to Annapolis and two to the Air Force Academy.
In Des Moines the House debated travel trips for lawmakers after a Mil len proposal to strip Cochran of trip authorization. A heated exchange with Avenson followed as a ten page report showed travel days: 155 in 1976 and higher counts in earlier years under Republican control. Millen urged bipartisan oversight and limits, while Avenson pressed for self restraint.
A state detective traced a string of 63 break-ins causing about 22000 dollars in losses. A 16 year old boy, identified as Mark Newton, allegedly admitted participation and described entering through many doors after failed window attempts. Det Manchester and Asst. Chief Barnes led the investigation at the Eldora State Training School for Boys.
