Fear Iowa Pollution Fund Loss
Iowa officials warned that about 16 million dollars in federal water pollution funds may be redirected if Iowa fails to act by May 15. Dominic of the Federal Water Quality Office said 12.2 million was allotted for 1970 and the same for 1971, with only 5.6 million used. The conference included Attorney General John Mitchell urging Congress to back Nixon’s revenue sharing and federalism ideas.

Treasury officials told Congress the administration might use standby power for a wage freeze, while Connally signaled openness to extending standby authority but opposed a general wage-price regime.
