Ice jam along Cedar River keeps Ellis Boulevard closed
City Streets Commissioner Don Thomas said little has changed as a Cedar River ice jam at Ellis Park traps floodwater. Ellis Boulevard NW remains shut until the jam breaks and ice moves. The National Weather Service predicted warming to 40 degrees by Thursday to aid breakup. At The Eastern Iowa Airport an American Eagle Embraer RJ with 46 aboard declared an emergency over a damaged window and landed safely with fire crews on standby.

Taxing fattening foods by space and weight frames
A columnist argues against fat tax and proposes measuring attendance by space rather than headcount. He suggests airport weight frames for passengers and a premium for larger derrieres, plus pro rated charges at sports venues to reflect space used. He notes such ideas could be controversial for venues and sponsors.
