Men form brotherly band in Johnson County
In Iowa City and surrounding towns, Joel Bruss and Matt Reed recall their Big Brothers Big Sisters matches. Matt credits the program with life changes. Kalona council weighs 12-cent levy hike to cover state cuts
Kalona plans a public hearing on March 1 to consider a 12-cent valuation levy increase for 2004 05. The move would raise the levy from 10.11 to 10.23 per thousand to offset 35,000 in state funding cuts and 4,200 in property tax rollbacks. The budget adds 19,500 for the Kalona Public Library for a new building due January 2005, with health insurance questions unresolved.
