Desert Adventure film to be shown at SU auditorium

Described as a colored film from California titled Desert Adventure will be shown by explorer photographer Harry R. Reed Sunday at 2 30 p m in the University of Iowa Macbride auditorium. The program includes the Anza caravan with 300 jeeps following a desert trail from Hemet to the Mexican border, a route blazed by Capt. Juan Bautista de Anza in 1774.

Old Springville School Built in 1865 Faces Razing This Year

A brick Springville school erected in 1865 cost 1200 dollars and served six years before overcrowding led to a new building. The site was bought from Charles Pinkney in 1840, later public property, now owned by Mr. and Mrs. Boomhower who plan to raze the structure.

Romulo to Speak at University of Iowa in April

Gen Carlos P Romulo Pulitzer prize author statesman and soldier will lecture at the University of Iowa on April 19 as part of the 1960 61 University Lecture course His topic will be The Asia America Does Not Know A Labor Columnist Vic Riesel canceled Feb 22 appearance due to eye surgery announced by Orville Hitchcock professor of speech and lecture chairman Romulo last spoke in Iowa City in summer 1957 and this will be his third visit in recent years.

Conservation Board Work in Delaware Told

Elbert Kline, Delaware County Conservation Board director, outlined plans to shift from acquisition to maintenance. New parcels include 22 acres northeast of Manchester and 40 acres near Greeley. The board seeks 90 more acres for timber along Elk Creek and 109 acres near Turtle Creek, plus river access and roadside parks. Tax levy remains 14 mills yielding about $9,000 annually.

Barth Receives Meritorious Service Award for Labor Initiative

UTH L Barth, daughter of Mrs Albert J Barth of Cedar Rapids, was presented the Meritorious Service Award for developing a nationwide information program for the U S department of labor in 1960. The citation was given by outgoing Labor Secretary James Mitchell at a ceremony attended by 1500 department employees.
