University of Iowa police arrested 23 year old Robert L. Hightower not affiliated with the university on seven charges after a female student was recorded in a Burge Hall restroom. Charges include invasion of privacy third degree burglary trespass assault on people in certain occupations and simple assault.
A $1.9 million pilot to help at least 1,800 Iowa pupils in 40 districts boost reading. Gov Branstad announced the plan as a statewide summer program for 2017 with third grade exit exams to push reading proficiency. Deb Reed of Iowa Reading Research Center says districts will tailor courses to local needs while teachers receive development. Funding for 2017 is not yet identified. a $9 million request has been made.
